Schools don’t just educate kids; they also feed them! Each year, the National School Lunch Program provides over 31 million low-income students with free or reduced-price lunch. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) improved the requirements for healthy lunch options, but with the budget per meal being increased by only six cents, there’s been a massive disconnect between public policy and the cost realities of healthy food.
