Back in 2019, 21-year-old Jaden Smith opened a food truck called the “I Love You Restaurant.” It was unique in that its mission was to make a positive impact and it did this by offering vegan food for free to those in need.
The mobile food truck served as a pop-up restaurant on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles, and they used it to hand out free paper bags with an “I Love You Bowl” in each one. The bowls were packed with nutritious, cruelty-free ingredients, like whole grains, sweet potatoes, and dark leafy greens.
According to its website, the mission of the truck is “to spread Love to communities experiencing food and/or housing insecurity by offering water along with fresh, high-quality, and delicious sustainable meal options.”
Now, two years later, the food truck is transitioning into a more permanent restaurant.
According to Variety, Smith is planning to open the restaurant to all patrons, homeless, hungry, or otherwise.
Those who are in need of a free meal will be able to receive one and those who can afford to pay will be asked to pay a little extra in order to help pay for the meals of those eating for free.
Smith is doing more than helping people with his restaurant, he also co-founded 501CTHREE, “a new type of nonprofit for a younger generation focused on Energy, Food, Water and Shelter.”
According to its website, Smith said, “My motivation started when I was about eleven years old, and it came from me learning about the environment from my teachers at school. It got to the point when I really wanted to make an active change and I wanted to do something that could make a difference in the world. As I started to evolve these ideas, I started to realize that we have problems so close to home.”
It’s amazing to see someone as young as Smith making such a massive positive impact on the world. His new restaurant will be opening in the future, though the location and opening date have not been announced yet.
