James Fox was born with partial and malformed arms and legs, but that didn’t stop him from having a happy childhood.
As he grew older, though, he became depressed and had a hard time dealing with anxiety.
When he was older, he tried a plethora of things to ease his anxiety and depression including therapy and medications, but none of it worked.
Although he started his career as a software developer, he turned to alcohol and medications and had thought of suicide.
Sadly, he became homeless in Fort Myers, Florida, but a random encounter with a local businessman four years ago would soon change his life.
Fox, who gets around on a skateboard, was riding down a parkway in Cape Coral, when Dan Creighton, CEO of Creighton Construction and Development, saw him and grew concerned for his safety
He pulled up alongside Fox and asked him if he needed a ride, and Fox took him up on his offer. Creighton then asked if he could at least get him an electric wheelchair, but Fox refused.
When Creighton dropped Fox off to his destination, he told him to call him if he ever needed anything, but he never did. After they met, Creighton couldn’t stop thinking about Fox and his whereabouts. He was truly inspired by his determination, despite his circumstances.
Creighton worried he’d never see Fox again, but two years later, fate brought them together.
One day, Creighton saw Fox waiting at a bus stop and pulled over to ask him if he wanted a ride. Fox recognized Creighton from four years prior, and agreed on the ride.
Creighton learned that Fox was on his way to the Social Security office because he was in the process of getting evicted for not being able to afford his rent. Creighton took Fox and gave him a $10,000 check.
In the past few years, Fox had lost both of his parents and didn’t really have much family to call his own. Creighton welcomed Fox into his own family with open arms, and today, Fox is happy to be so involved in Creighton’s life. He attends family birthday parties, goes to his son’s baseball games, and has joined a church.
Creighton even bought Fox his own condo across the street from his church, and set up a GoFundMe for him so he could get back onto his feet.
Fox was speechless and couldn’t thank Creighton enough for all he has done for him. The two of them started out as complete strangers, but fate brought them together and now they are not just the best of friends, but also family.
