As the globe’s human population grows, many are concerned about the ability to support and feed an unprecedented number of people.
This year’s annual hunger report has just been published by the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, and the World Food Program.
In 1990, about one billion people didn’t get enough to eat every day. One of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals was to halve the percentages of hungry people, and 72 of the 129 nations monitored by the Food and Agriculture Organization had achieved the target. This achievement means that the percentage of global hungry dropped from 23.3% in 1990, to 12.9% today, even after taking account the population growth.
Despite the positive news, there’s still progress that needs to be made before world hunger is eradicated. Up to 800 million people around the world are still hungry and they need your help.Whizzco
