Tired of Seeing Classmates Go Hungry, Students Took Matters Into Their Own Hands

Fifteen million children in the United States live with food insecurity, but the tenacious students of one North Carolina high school are banding together to fight hunger in their community.

When Washington High School senior, Erin Lewis, realized that school lunch was the only meal some of her fellow students would eat all day, she took action. With the help of the student government and school administration, she began a food pantry that any student in need may use anonymously and shame-free.

Check out Food Recovery Network to learn how you can contribute, like Lewis and her classmates. A one-time donation of just $10 can help to provide meals for up to 100 hungry Americans.
